1. LOVE
Well, my brother is a Monopoly fanatic, owning at least 7 versions of Monopoly himself. I, on the other hand, was content just playing his when visiting, until I came across this gem. I am a HUGE Muppets fan and could not pass up any board game that featured the Muppets (which is why I own the Muppets Yahtzee, as well). After playing many of my brothers versions, as well as this one, I must say that I think the Muppet version went the extra mile. The cards are all very high quality with great, appealing graphics. The pieces are shaped like Muppets and although some are a little "off" (Kermit looks too tall and Miss Piggy too skinny, for example), I can't say that I'm disappointed. I would definitely recommend this version of the game. They really put effort into putting a Muppet spin on a classic game and it shows.

2. Muppet Novelty Wore Off Quickly
My sons (ages 9 and 7) already owned the classic Monopoly board game but I purchased this collector's edition on sale ($19.99) as a 2011 Christmas present, knowing they enjoyed watching old episodes of The Muppet Show and were looking forward to seeing the new movie, The Muppets.

We played the board game about 4-5 times before the novelty wore off and the boys returned to the classic Monopoly game. We take board games along with us on family trips, so I expect we have a couple more games to play but not enough to justify owning two Monopoly board games.

Pricey, but As Described
I bought this for my niece (14) as a birthday present, as she is a Muppet fan. To me, the adult, it seemed slightly less playable than plain ol' Monopoly, e.g., properties are named and grouped in a seemingly random way, making them harder to familiarize. However, my niece enjoyed it, learning the game for the first time (something she hadn't done with other editions of Monopoly), so I must admit the game served its purpose. Still, a bit pricey for a board game.

I purchased this as a gift for my mother who is 82 years old. She loves to play solitaire on their home computer, but it is not located in a main room of their home. She loves the fact that she can put this on her lap while sitting in front of the television and be able to play her solitaire game. I was reluctant to purchase for fear of quality, but I found it to be well made, and works as it stated. I am happy I bought it for her.

I was very impressed with the quality, the size of the unit and the response of the touch screen. Just like the previous reviewer, I too, bought this for my mother who is 91 years old. She likes to play solitaire the old fashioned way, with playing cards, sitting at a table but finds she tires quickly playing solitaire this way now at her age. This is a Christmas gift for her this year so she has not had the opportunity to try it yet but I am hoping she will love it. She will be able to sit back in her recliner to play this on her lap.

A bit disappointed
I am a bit disappointed in this item. I was surprised to find that it doesn't have a back light. The screen has to be at a specific angle to see. Also the touch of the keys is inconsistent. My other handheld games for a much less purchase price are easier to use.

This is a great game and very enjoyable for my child. It says ages 5 and up, but he is 4 and loves to play this game. 2. A game and a toy
I bought this for Christmas so we could try a different sort of game. As another reviewer mentioned, the directions were sort of vague.

The gamepiece is a big plastic thing that looks like a flying saucer. On one side there is a hole for your hand (draped in a plastic material, so you can't see), on the other side there is a window. On the top, there is a 30 second timer. When the timer is on, a light comes on inside of the flying saucer so that anyone looking through the window can see what is going on.

The game comes with cards and pieces. The game cards have sets of pictures on them. For example, a sea creature card would have a picture of a seahorse and a squid on it. You spread these cards around the flying saucer, face down, then put the corresponding pieces (i.e. the seahorse and the squid) inside the flying saucer.

To play the game, you spin a ring around the bottom of flying saucer. The ring has a pointer on it, and whichever card it stops on,...

Excellent learning game!
I teach a preschool class and many books tell you to "put items in a bag and have the kids identify them using only touch". This game is that and so much more! There are many cards you use and each has pictures of 2-4 items in that category you need to find. In the beginning, you should only use 1/2 of the items/cards as it is REALLY hard for kids AND adults. You spin the spinner and whatever card you land on is the one you need to find objects for. You set the 30 sec. timer and reach in to try to find the items using only touch. The back of the container is see-through, so the rest of the players can see where you are reaching. To be honest, I thought it would be really easy for adults, but my 6 year old is doing better than several adults who have tried it. It works the right side of your brain, so "right brained" people will definitely have an advantage, but it's fun for all ages!

1. Poor Packaging
I purchase this chess set as a gift for my nephew. It appears to be top quality on the website. However, the set arrived in two poor quality cardboard boxes with no labels. There was no way to store the set once it was unwrapped from the cardboard. The set may be wonderdul, but the presentation was horrible! I returned it and will look for a chess set somewhere else.

2. An excellent library set.
As one reviewer noted, this set and its pieces are packed simply in cardboard and paper. Actually, the pieces themselves came with additional packaging to prevent chipping and scratching during transport. The pieces are very high quality, triple weighted, and should cost $40 to $50 alone. Chess house has these pieces (Kari wood in exactly this Staunton design) one size up (3.5" king) for $70 or $80. I have seen this exact board (maple veneer, rounded corners) sold separately for over $50. At its current price, then, this set represents about a 20% discount from the price of the pieces and board sold separately. It is a "library" set with squares of about 1 5/8" as opposed to a full sized club set with 2" squares. It's attractive enough to display, and looks very much like a smaller version of the professional sets used in grandmaster tournaments. I would definitely buy this set again; however, if I were looking for a larger tournament-style set, I'd probably avoid...

This game from Cranium lives up to my expectations. I bought it for a preschooler who loved Caraboo and I thought was ready for more advanced skills. This game has 4 topic areas just like the grownup Cranium, but aimed at preschoolers: counting, alphabet, drawing, and dancing. My preschooler and school age child really enjoyed making letter shapes with their bodies, and drawing simple animals, and everyone enjoyed the dance moves. There is expansion options for older children to up the challenges. The board is well designed with moving playground equipment that is fun to interact with. The timer is a catchy non-annoying tune. It took a group of 4 of us around 1/2 hour to play.

2. Great game for all ages!
This is a great game for all ages. We can easily adapt the rules for our 3-year-old primarily by not using the timer and just rolling the dice to determine how many spaces you get to move. It is a great game for children with gross motor or motor planning difficulties. In fact, our son's ABA therapists like to use it with him during their sessions. The time it takes to get through the game is also good for young children.

Simple, yet fun, racing game
This is a simple yet fun racing game. You have to race 2 people down the river before your opponents get their two people down the river. There are multiple race courses that you can piece together giving you different rivers every game. There are also logs that clog the river, and also float down the river with you. While it's a simple racing game, there is a mild bit of strategy involved in whether to decide to race both your loggers down the river quickly, or race one, and leave one behind and clog your opponents ways at the river bends. This is a pretty good family game that I think kids can pick up quickly. And it's quirky, in that not everyone in the world will have it, but can learn it easily.

Great for learning exercises!
I am a science teacher and was lucky to receive a grant from our PTO to purchase six sets. I've used them in an Ecosystem Jenga activity to have students learn about the impact on an ecosystem when plants, animals, or other aspects of ecosystems are negatively affected (such as a species extinction). The kids love playing the game and the blocks are a great learning tool. The blocks are sturdy, well made, and will be used for years of teaching. This is a great toy for your children...colorful, moving fish with the the "Three Little Fishes" song playing over and over and over again, hence the annoyance. You will find that song in your head for hours after. But kids like it because you can use the cards to play matching games or simply work on the coordination exercise of catching the fish. This is one of my three year old's favorite toys. He loves the colors and the movement. It's interactive and it gives him a chance to play with others and learn rules, turn taking, etc. And go fishing like Daddy!

Fishin' Around was a hit in our house right away. It's upbeat music, eight colorful fish and four little fishing poles get your attention. The concept of fishing alone is not very educational, but the manufacturer has included playing cards to direct the participants in what fish they are to catch. As a result the child concentrates on color recognition and eye-hand coordination as the fish revolve around their circular pond. (Lately we play without the cards and just race to see who gets the most fish.) The overall length each match is short (2-4 minutes) just right for most toddlers. We'll play 5 or 6 times until my three year old moves onto something else. It's a good introduction to sitting down and "playing a game".

This toy will catch the attention of young children.
My children (ages 2.8 and 3.8 yrs.) and I really like this game when we can find all the pieces (fishing rods and fish). The sound of it drives you crazy after a while. Even after the game is turned off the kids go around humming that melodious tune, whatever it is. The games pluses are that it helps develop eye-hand coordination, pattern recognition, and it provides plenty of fun for the kids. I would love it if I could turn the volume down, or somehow rig it so that it played no sound at all.

This game is fun, it was easy to learn the directions & everyone can play. My 10 year old has some special needs & it is very hard to find games that we can play as a family but he loves this game & so does my 15 year old. A main piece of the game is made out of cardboard so I wonder how long it will last. You can put in 15 blocking walls for a fairly easy game or put them all in for a much harder game. The game takes only about 10 minutes to play so we usually end up playing 3-4 games at each sitting. It really makes you work on problem solving & memorization.

2. Neat idea - but my family lost interest quickly...
The game is a very creative twist on a maze exploration board game. The usage of magnets and hidden barriers is very creative. Unfortunately, I think it's too easy to "cheat" and feel your way through the board. And several times we needed a grand jury to decide whether somebody was bumping up against walls or not. This game generated a lot of excitement at first, but quickly was forgotten. After the first day, my kids have never ask to play this game again.

Bought On a Whim...
I was in a local board game shop that popped up before the holidays and I noticed The Magic Labyrinth was on sale, so I figured I'd take a chance on it. It SEEMED like it might be geared a bit towards younger people based on the art on the box, but for the price I thought what the heck.

I got it home and read the rules. Easy to play?? Absolutely. I set the game up for a play session with my wife. We used, for the first game, the basic setup that it shows in the manual. I told my wife how to play, and we were off.

About 20 minutes later, she had gotten her fifth magic object and had defeated me, 5-4.

We promptly tore the top off of the board and placed the remaining obstacles and had another go at it.

I really, REALLY enjoyed the game. It's a lot of fun, and it definitely takes some thought and memory skills to remember where you've already been. I found myself, on more than one occasion, getting caught by the same walls. I had...

My son got this for Christmas. He has been playing knee hockey almost obsessively for a few months now. The quality of this is OK, nothing spectacular. But it does what it is advertised to do and any young hockey player will love this. The mask alone is worth it.

My 4 year-old is all about hockey and when we saw this goalie set he had to have it. He has wore this play set just about every day. Granted, I didn't play many board games growing up. In fact, I can count them all on one hand. But Candy Land was one of them, and easily my favorite when I was younger. My daughter got this version of Candy Land as a gift, and we finally had a chance to play it. The game's still fun, and I'm surprised at how much fun she was getting out of it- we played 8 games over the course of an hour!

If you've never played Candy Land, it's very simple. Up to 4 players play on the board, which is drawn out like a map for Candy Land. Your goal is to make it to the king's candy castle by drawing cards. Each card will have one color, two colors, or a character on it. If you draw a color, you move your character to the closest square of that same color. If it's a two color card, you move two spaces. If it's a character, you move forward or back to that location. You can also lose a turn by landing on one of the few spaces made for that. See? Very simple!

2. Love this size!!
I was skeptical when I saw this "game in a book" for Candyland in the store. The back says that it has a full-sized game board, which is important, so I went ahead and bought it.

It's great! It does fold out to a full-sized, durable game board. The illustrations are good too, and the figures are pretty sturdy.

Overall, I'm totally happy with this storage size and will look for other "game in a book" in the series.

Being originally from Chicago and now in SoCal this fit the bill for my son looking to stay in touch with the town that he grew up in. Fit and finish is on par with any new Monopoly game but what's most interesting are the array of logos, pictures, icons, etc all being Bears. However, as a kid of the 60's, the omission of Dick Butkus is glaring.

This was purchased as a Christmas gift for my 16 year old son. This was a game that he saw in a catalog and requested on his "list". I was all to happy to go for it, as it is hard these days to find things to compete with computer and video games. We have enjoyed playing this quite a lot. It takes a bit of getting used to and a steady hand and some patience, but is lots of fun and interesting to discover the way the magnetic pieces are going to react. This is a game that could be enjoyed by any school age child, perhaps the younger ones with some supervision. I agree with someone's comment "that the rules aren't particularly well written", but there are places on the web that give better descriptions.

Like its cousin, Trouble, the game Sorry is quite simple in design. The reality, however, is that it is both an entertaining and surprisingly educational board game. I purchased this item as a 50th Birthday gift for my husband. He loves the Chess Set. It is beautiful. However it arrived with a scratch on the board.The scratch can not be buffed out. The Chess Set was well packaged and I'm sure it was scratched BEFORE it was sent.(I believe it slipped through quality control)I feel with the amount of money it cost it should NOT be scratched. This chess board is a great buy for a wooden chess board with wooden pieces. The pieces are stored on leather straps, so they won't get lost. We have played many games of chess on this board and have not lost any pieces, despite the presence of two toddlers in the house. It is a much better storage method than a cardboard box. 2. Make a good wall decoration

1. Great game to get kids moving!
We just got this great game and my kids love it. They opened it, got the batteries in and were playing within minutes. I could hear them outside laughing and screaming. After about 15 minutes my oldest son (11) came in, covered with sweat, and said, "This is by far the best gift we have gotten!" I loved that they could figure it out themselves and that it was keeping them moving. It was a real workout! Great for my middle son, 9, who likes to play on the computer a bit too much. He was running around and laughing like crazy too. The boys even included their 5 y/o sister who had a blast. It is so cool how they wear colored bands on their hands and get to sign in by touching the ball. The ball calls out each color as they touch it. The game determines which color does what so no one can say someone isnt playing fair. Not one argument when they were playing. If you want a game that gets them moving and laughing this is the one!

2. not as fun as cosmic catch
My son got cosmic catch a few years ago for his birthday. He had a great time with cosmic catch with his friends but it broke (fairly quickly). He got cosmic keep away for his birthday a few months ago. The first few times he had a great times with his friends but their are far fewer options then with cosmic catch so he wished he had gotten a new cosmic catch. The main games with cosmic keep away are monkey in the middle and keep away games, which work best with three players. This toy is best played with 3-4 kids.
If you are deciding between cosmic catch and keep away, I would recomend the cosmic catch because it is good for 2-8 players and has more game choices. This product is still fun and I would much rather have the kids playing outside then inside with video games. The kids that have used this at my house range from 4-14. I would say the ideal age range is 7+. It moves a little fast for kids under 6.

So much fun once we got the batteries in correctly
This electronic keep away ball was SO much fun, it had everyone running around the yard and laughing in minutes! Initially we did have the same problem that other reviewers reported, that the ball starting turning off but would turn on after hitting the reset button. However, it turned out that we hadn't tightened the screws around the battery compartment enough after putting in the batteries, so a quick tightening with a small screwdriver fixed the problem :) A small screwdriver is really essential to properly replace the batteries.

The game is made for 2-4 players. One of the designers was at gencon, and he told me that he preferred to play with 2, but the testers seemed to prefer 4. We played with 4 at the demo.

there are 3 basics card lined up on the top row, which serve as resources.
next there are 3 spell cards in a row.
finally, there are 7 creature cards lines up below the basics and spells.
next to each spell and creature card are five dice. these dice can be purchased by the players to add to their "quarry dice".

On each players turn, they place their dice in a quarry bag, shake them up and draw out six. At the start of the game, each player has 8 quiddity dice and 4 assistant dice. These 12 dice are two of the three basic resources in the game, and are used to buy creatures and spells.

Quarriors is a superb game. I am a huge board game geek, but I'm not good at sitting through those 3 hour games. But quarriors is the exact opposite. It is quick paced and changes every play. No play is the same which makes this game lots of fun to play over and over. I've owned this game for about a month and my friends and I have probably played it 10 different times and we still love it. Quarriors adds an aspect of luck that just can't be provided by deck building games. Absolutely fantastic. I can't wait til the expansion comes out

Quarriors is a "Dicebuilding" game (much like a deckbuiling game, but with dice) in which players summon up monsters to achieve the most glory and win the day.

It is a player vs. player type of game so you won't be working together for the common good in Quarriors, but the way the game plays the combat doesn't feel mean spirited so no one I've play with has gotten their feelings hurt or bent out of shape. At the start of every turn you total the attack power of all the monsters you have summoned and they attack EVERY player with that total. The player defends with their own so the challenge comes in getting your monsters to survive a whole round in which they'll be scored, gaining glory and moving up your piece on the Glory track.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for the kids. They loved it, though they only played with it a few times. After only a handful of uses, it no longer comes on when we try to switch it on. I have tried 2 sets of new batteries and still no juice. Unfortunate for the amount of money I spent on it - was about $40 at the time. It not the kind of toy that gets moved around; it stays in place as you play and just move the little penguins across the top - so it's not like it was tossed around. I'm guessing the motor burned out on it - figures this would be at exactly the time the warranty expired - you only get 3 months . . .not happy.

Besides the annoying noise that this chessboard makes when you play the computer. It is amazingly cool. I enjoyed a great challenging game of checkers and my son is new to chess and loves that it can teach him.

I just recently got back into playing chess after many years away from the game.

I bought one of these just to "try it out" - and it's an amazing device.

I like it so much that I bought another - one for home - one for my office for lunchtime games.

I started out at level 1 and learned to beat that level and have been progressing up through the levels.

What's truly interesting is that I keep track of my moves on my office computer - and as a test - went home and played the same white moves against that computer and it had different counters to my moves. I find that interesting in that the black (computer) side didn't have canned moves which makes game more interesting.

I have had my two for a few months now (and I bought them used)- and I've had no problems with durability or playability.

Yes - they're plastic - big deal (what isn't now?). As long as you don't drop or abuse it - it should last quite a bit...

So the problem with this toy, for my son, was that the product indicated it was for 4 years and older, but it really seemed more appropriate for a 2 year old, except that the pieces are probably too small for a little toddler. A rare plus of this game is that it scales well from 2 to 6 players. It's balanced and lively with as few as 2, and it doesn't bog down with a full 6.

Transamerica is surely a fabulous game. For as simple and easy to explain as it is, it provides a ton of entertainment. The idea is that you get 5 cities to connect in the USA-- one in each region: East, South, Midwest, Heartland, and West coast. The first person to connect all five of her cities wins the round, and other players lose points equal to the number of tracks needed to complete their network. You may employ others' rails once connected, so the trick is to anticipate where others are going to build and let them lay the tracks closer to your out of the way cities. Knowing when and where to connect is what separates good from great players here, along with a healthy dose of luck since some cities are painfully out of the way (Boston!). The game is great with 4+ but is acceptable with 3 and unique yet not as exciting as a 2-player feud. All in all, no hesitations in picking up this gem.

Better than settlers?
Is it better than settlers? Ehe. If I wrote this review 2 months ago, I would have sworn this was a great game. Light, fast paced, high player interaction, explained in 2 minutes, played in 20 minutes. However, after two months of play I have seen some glaring flaws. The luck element is just too high. I have played a game where the lucky winner went out in the first round - a five minute game with no strategy. I have then played a game that lasted an hour and a half and bored everyone to tears do only to bad luck in darwing the destinations.

Bottom Line: Is it fun? yes. Is it worth buying for a couple of months. Sure. Is it for kids? As long as they can read.

My son is obsessed with forklifts. Evertime we go to the store he listens for the beeping of the forklift and then we have to go look for it and watch it for forever. I thought he would love to have a forklift of his very own. Since we are trying to stay away from wood toys, I bought this one. It looked durable and fun with the little guy and a pallet with blocks to lift up and down.

We got the forklift and I opened the box up and you have to attach the front part of the forklift (the fork part that goes up and down) with this crappy peg that fits in a hole. Thats it!!! No screws, or anything. So of course the pegs keep coming out of the holes. Next, the crank you turn to make the forks go up and down broke, within 5 minutes of playing and I was the one playing so I know I was being very careful. Imagine what would happen if kids were to play with it...how long would it last then.

2. We love Plan Toys!
We are big fans of Plan Toys. They are made in Thailand of wood from rubber trees that are no longer producing latex and would be cut down anyways. The wood is minimally treated and painted with non-toxic paints and finishes. And all the designs are just adorable. This forklift is no exception. We especially love how it comes with a driver and three boxes to lift. And Amazon's price is by far the best.

not terribly impressed
My 3 year old got this toy as a gift. He plays with it and seems to enjoy it but overall I am not impressed with this toy...
- The forklift angles down slightly meaning that things tend to slide off it really easily, especially when moving the vehicle around.
- The little man does not fit into the vehicle very well. My son gets very frustrated trying to get him in (the space is a little small for such a long person and requires more dexterity than most 3 year olds would have) and then once he is in he doesn't stay put.
- The durability is generally ok (the vehicle has stood up to some tosses when my son got frustrated (see above)) but the workmanship was not what I would have expected from plan toys (or from the price). On the first day the little man's foot came unglued as well as another small (and seemingly insignificant) part on the forklift.

I am not too impressed with the quality of the product.
I'm still debating whether or not I will return it.
The board is solid and heavy but a cheap felt piece is glued to the
bottom of the board which is hollow and filled with styrofoam.
The dark pieces are very nice. The light pieces are more green in color and dusted with white powder.
The checker pieces are the same... the dark set is nice and the light set is not.
All pieces have glued on felt on the bottom.
The lids to the secret compartments on the board don't fit very well and the one I got is discolored (doesn't match the board) and the checker pieces do not all fit inside the small compartments.
So all in all it is just a novelty chess set.

2. Beautiful, with great historical value, but not the board isn't very practical
I love that this set not only includes both chess and checkers, but the board is so beautiful as well. I highly value having a chess set with such historical value (look up the Isle of Lewis chessmen on wikipedia). I'm very happy with the level of detail and the craftsmanship of the pieces. My only issue is that the board, while beautiful, is not practically designed. The two openings on the sides are just for show. They're not nearly big enough to hold even all the checkers pieces. That's fine if you're willing to store the pieces elsewhere (a couple of nice velvet sacs would do, but nothing like that comes with the set). It's unfortunate the board isn't better designed for storage, since it's basically completely hollow underneath (except it's been filled with styrofoam and closed over with felt). Even though it's hollow, the board is extremely heavy.

The photo doesn't quite do justice to the set--I was worried about the detail of the chessmen, but I was pleasantly...

2. If they're old enough, its a good time for all
I got the toy for my 5 year old niece. She loved the fact that it has a toy story theme.

My 10 year old niece assembled the ship (just snapping two ends of the ship together). The one frustrating thing is that if you dont snap the ship body in properly (which can be tricky) the whole game wont be stable and collapse mid game and we found that out the hard way.

The game is easy to teach a 5 year old and all ages in our home 5-49 enjoyed playing.

If you want to keep the toy ship assembled when you are done playing it wont fit in the game box.

The ship is the trickiest bit to assemble,but once you get the knack its okay.

Its easy to lose the aliens and sticks, so make sure you have a zip top bag handy to put all the pieces (and the die) so no one gets upset.

Loads better than the original kerplunk because of the theme. I would buy again.

Great game!
My husband bought this game for our 5 year old daughter. We all LOVE it. I remember Ker Plunk from when I was a kid and this makes it much more interesting with the Aliens. We are HUGE Toy Story fans and thought this was so cute.
It is made out of relatively cheap plastic, but seems to hold up well if you take care of it.

We purchased this game when my son was three, and a year later, he still enjoys it. It is very well made.

2. Not for children who have poor control
I work with children who have disabilities, this toy is extremely frustrating for them to use, So far 30 of my higher functioning children have said 'never bring that again'. Even non disabled kiddos don't like it, it's too unstable and won't hold all the pieces even if you could get it to balance (not enough room). Cute to look at, but doesn't work very well at all. Also the flag doesn't fit on the mast (was sewn too narrow), and not very well. Primarily Disappointed in this product, sadly I can't recommend it.

1. A very versatile little set
The great thing about this particular magnetic travel set is that if you have to leave before the game is over, you just put the lid on. So many other travel magnetic sets force you to take all the pieces off the board and store them inside the folding board. I use this one on the train on my way to work; I read an instructional chess book and follow along on this set. When the ride is over, I mark my spot in the book, put the lid on the set, and they both go in my backpack until the ride home. (the pieces don't move either, even after carrying my backpack around) The pieces are of a unique design with an octagonal base. Drueke (the company that makes these) refers to the pieces as "fully scaled". What this means is that they are all (except the pawns) about the same height, so that the most possible detail can be shown.

Like any nice set, the knights have great detail. They are really quite beautiful for a set in this range.

My only complaint is that the...

This set is great: it is small and compact, the magnets are strong enough that the pieces stay put even when the board is sideways or upside down, and when the cover is on, the pieces can be left on the board to keep a game in progress going. My 5 year old son, a chess fanatic, declares this is his favorite toy, and has taken to carrying his current game in progress with him wherever he goes around the house or in the car.

The only complaint I have about this set is durability. Two things: 1) the pieces have a tendency to detach from the magnetic bases. Although the bases are easily snapped back on, it is a bit annoying when you lift a piece to make your move and find that you have left behind the magnetic base. We are considering simply using super glue to permanantly attach the magnets to the pieces. 2) the board has a shiny finish which, after just a few weeks regular use, is showing many scratches. I expect in a couple of months it will look pretty banged up...

Chess Pro Rates Drueke Magnetic 5 Stars
I'm an international master (although I haven't competed for years), and here I am, getting *another* Drueke set. I've probably had a dozen over the decades! For me it is the optimal set for analysis while studying. It's a perfect size to use with a book (or many books). The pieces are easy to see and distinguish, and even more important to move around. The colors are comfortable. The fact that you can cover it up and resume after travel is nice.

But there are flaws.

The rooks are such that, if you have them on the side and cover the board, and put something on top, you could break off bits of the top. It's a design flaw which Drueke probably hasn't dealt with, although it would be s simple 1/16th inch reshaping of the cover. (The flat part before it rises should be made smaller.) I got in the habit of moving them inward before putting on the cover. Another solution, which I did a few times before getting lazy, was to hacksaw off a bit the rook tower just below...

I bought the Wood Expressions Camphor Chess/Checkers Set for my son as a college graduation gift. He (and I) enjoy the game, and we both like playing on a good quality wood set. I have one that I got as a kid from my dad, and I wanted to do the same for him.

This one is well made, is all wood, inlaid (not painted squares), has drawers on each side, with felt covered compartments for each piece. It comes with all the chess pieces (wood), and also with checkers pieces (also wood). The chess pieces are slightly weighted, and have a good weight and feel to them, and the pieces are easy to recognize (some sets are carved too fancy, it's hard to tell what certain pieces are).

This was a Christmas present for my grandkids. There was a gap between purchase price and the time the kids acutally opened it up and played with it. It was missing the chess pieces. I contacted the company asking if they could send just the pieces instead of shipping the whole thing back and getting a new set. I was extremely pleased to see them do just that. I just opened this chess set as it is going to be a birthday present for a friend and I wanted to put all the pieces on the magnetic strip.

I have no idea where these other reviews came from. For the price I paid ($90) for this item, the quality stinks. The bamboo board has scratches all over it. The wood is not sealed in any way to protect from future damage. The entire product screams CHEAP.

The "hand carved" pieces look like they were carved using slave labor in India. I am returning this item.

EDIT: The maker of this product responded to my Amazon comment. I respect that. I may not like a product but I appreciate a well thought out comment. If Mr. Holden creates a higher quality/more expensive version of his chess set I would consider buying one.

Update: Excellent set and excellent customer service.
I posted my first review of this set about a year and a half ago, making a point to mention flaws in the carving of the pieces and the way they stuck to the board. However, Mr. Holden recently contacted me - far beyond the limit of the return policy - and offered to send an entire set of new pieces free of charge. Naturally, I accepted, and I am far from disappointed.

The new and improved pieces not only stick to the board more reliably, they are slightly redesigned to look even prettier, and the quality of the carving has improved. There are unsightly errors on two of the pieces, but I intend to ask for replacements.

I highly recommend this set. If there any problems with the one you order, Mr. Holden seems determined to ensure that everything is set right.
